In response to Senator Dick Durbin's announcement that he supports a ceasefire in Gaza, IfNotNow national spokesperson Eva Borgwardt released the following statement:

“We’re thrilled to see Sen. Durbin become the first member of the Senate to support a ceasefire. Sen. Durbin's words underscore the need to build momentum towards diplomacy — and reach a political solution that will finally lead Israelis and Palestinians out of the current nightmare. There is no military solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, and only when the violence ends can the work of building a new and just peace can begin. Ceasefire, hostage release, deescalation, and a path to ending occupation, apartheid, and siege are needed urgently, for the welfare of Israelis, Palestinians, and people throughout the region.”
